In light of the rising pedestrian death toll on national roads stemming from road traffic accidents, Molepolole Traffic officers, in partnership with the Department of Road Transport Services (DRTS) and Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund, resorted to a robust two-day awareness campaign aimed at educating the public on responsible road usage.

The initiative, held from 2nd to 3rd May 2025, focused on high-risk zones, including busy intersections, high-traffic corridors and popular entertainment spots along the A12 Road in Molepolole. The campaign sought to promote safe pedestrian practices and foster a culture of mutual respect between motorists and pedestrians.

Statistics revealed that, road accidents involving pedestrians are reported almost every week, a disturbing trend that underscores the urgent need for preventive measures. The campaign also encouraged responsible road behaviour by motorists and pedestrians, urging them to adhere to traffic rules and exercise caution at all times.

The road safety outreach programmes would continue, with future campaigns targeting hotspots. Members of the public commended the Police and stakeholders for this initiative, adding that it will go a long way in saving lives.

The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Busani Ndlovu, Deputy Director of Traffic, and ACP Boiki Mojalemotho, Divisional Traffic Officer for the Southern Division.

The Police distributed informational brochures and engaged directly with pedestrians and motorists.
