The Commissioner of Police, Commissioner Dinah Marathe, convened a high-level engagement with three key oversight Bodies recently at Police Headquarters: the Police Council, Arms and Ammunition, and the National DNA Database Advisory Boards. The purpose of the session was to foster collaboration, align strategic priorities, and chart a unified path to enhancing policing effectiveness across the country.
The meet and greet session provided a valuable platform for the Botswana Police Service (BPS) Executive and the Board members to connect and reflect on institutional partnerships. It also served as an opportunity to reinforce the importance of resilient, transparent and accountable administrative processes in delivering effective policing services.
In her welcome remarks, Commissioner Marathe acknowledged the critical role and expertise that Board members continue to contribute towards the effective functioning of the BPS. She emphasised that the BPS operates in close partnership with the community, guided by its mission to address emerging public security challenges through a customer-centric approach.
The Commissioner further highlighted the Boards' pivotal role in fostering public trust by ensuring that Police processes remain transparent, fair and responsive. She urged members to remain steadfast in their commitment to serving the nation despite any challenges that may arise. She expressed her sincere gratitude for their dedication to the shared mission of building a safer Botswana.
Speaking on behalf of their respective Boards, the Chairpersons expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and welcomed the platform to engage directly with the BPS Executive. They noted that the session enabled meaningful dialogue and laid the groundwork for enhanced collaboration in their new roles.
Delivering a vote of thanks, the Secretary for Safety and Security in the Ministry for State President, Mr Kago Ramokate, encouraged Board members to familiarise themselves with the relevant legal frameworks and statutes that govern their work. He underscored the importance of informed decision-making and applauded the members for their spirit of selflessness and voluntarism in serving the nation.
